News | 2026 Falcon Sporting Clays

Four flexible weekends for all abilities

Choose your event. Choose your time. Shoot for fun or for a score.

The Falcon Sporting Clays weekends return to Wairarapa from August through November 2026, bringing new shooters, club members, hunters, families and experienced competitors together across four flexible three-day events.

English Sporting and Super Sporting remain the two main scored events, joined this year by the New Zealand introduction of Rally Clays, a fast, head-to-head match-play event created in the United Kingdom.

Come for one round, spend the day with us or make a weekend of it. Attend the first event, pick the dates that suit you, or come back for all four.

Registrations will be open soon

Full details of how it works will be on this link soon

A weekend that works around you

These are not conventional one-day competitions with a single fixed start time.

Each event runs from Friday through Sunday, giving you the freedom to take part when it suits you.

You can:

  • choose the event and level of challenge that appeals to you

  • shoot one official round or re-enter to improve your score

  • mix scored shooting with practice or coaching

  • come for an hour, stay for the day or spend the weekend at the club

  • attend one weekend or take part across the full four-month programme

Some people come to compete. Some come to improve. Others simply enjoy another chance to shoot, catch up with good people and spend time outdoors.

All of those ways of participating are welcome.

Choose your shooting

English Sporting

English Sporting provides the more approachable of the two main courses, with clear target presentations and enjoyable pairs suited to a broad range of experience levels.

It is ideal for developing shooters, club members wanting an enjoyable round and experienced competitors looking to post a strong score.

Super Sporting

Super Sporting offers greater target variety, more technical angles and an additional challenge for those more experienced shooters.

It remains accessible, but gives competitors plenty to think about and plenty of reason to re-enter.

New for 2026: Rally Clays

Rally Clays is a fast, head-to-head match-play format created in the United Kingdom by Simon Reinhold.

The format has already been successfully used for international matches between Britain and the United States, and Wairarapa Clay Target Club is now bringing Rally Clays to New Zealand in direct collaboration with Simon.

Two shooters step up and challenge one another in a short, live contest where every target matters. It is quick to understand, entertaining to watch and built around friendly pressure, tactics and good-natured rivalry.

Rally Clays will run alongside English Sporting and Super Sporting throughout each Falcon weekend. A pool system will allow shooters to take part in matches across the weekend, with prizes available.

You do not need to be an elite competitor. Anyone who is safe, proficient and comfortable shooting independently can have a crack, whether you are a club shooter, an experienced game shooter or a seasoned Sporting Clays competitor.

Full details on the format, pool system and prizes will be released in a dedicated Rally Clays feature shortly.

New and casual shooters are genuinely welcome

You do not need to arrive with years of experience, your own firearm or a firearms licence.

Guided introductions, club equipment and support are available for people wanting to try clay target shooting or build their confidence under club supervision.

Friday and selected periods on Saturday are particularly well suited to:

  • first-time shooters

  • families and younger participants

  • school shooters wanting broader experience

  • hunters looking for off-season practice

  • people returning to the sport

  • casual shooters wanting some coaching or guidance

We will help you get started at your own pace, in a safe and supportive environment.

Registrations for new-shooter introductions will be live soon

Competition is still at the heart

The welcoming format does not mean the shooting has been watered down.

English Sporting and Super Sporting remain the two headline scored events, with quality target presentations, grading, re-entry and substantial Falcon-supported prizes across the four weekends.

Experienced shooters can chase scores, test themselves across both disciplines and return throughout the weekend to improve their result.

The aim is to create one event format that works equally well for someone taking their first shots and someone arriving to compete seriously.

More than $14,000 in prizes across the series

Falcon Ammunition returns as the naming-rights sponsor of the 2026 Falcon Sporting Clays programme, providing exceptional support across all four weekends.

Through Falcon’s backing, approximately $12,000 worth of Falcon ammunition will be awarded across the series.

That support will extend across English Sporting, Super Sporting and Rally Clays, with prizes recognising grades, performance, participation and developing shooters.

The intention is not simply to reward the highest scores. Falcon’s support gives shooters at every level more reasons to take part, improve and return throughout the series.

The prize pool is further supported by:

  • Hunting & Fishing Masterton

  • King & Henry Masterton

  • Stihl Shop Masterton

Together, these local businesses are adding more than $2,000 in monthly random-draw prizes to anyone who posts a score across the four weekends.

That gives the 2026 Falcon Sporting Clays programme a combined prize pool of more than $14,000, with opportunities for serious competitors, club shooters, newcomers and people simply coming along to enjoy the weekend.

The club is extremely grateful to Falcon Ammunition and our supporting Masterton businesses for investing in a participation-focused programme that is helping Sporting Clays grow.
