Shoot when it suits you

There is no single compulsory start time and no requirement to spend the entire weekend at the club.

Register your intended attendance, then arrive during the shooting periods that suit you.

You can:

  • shoot English Sporting, Super Sporting or both

  • shoot one official round or re-enter

  • mix official rounds with practice

  • receive coaching or guidance during suitable periods

  • try Rally Clays between your main rounds

  • come for an hour, stay for the day or return throughout the weekend

For English Sporting and Super Sporting, your best official round of the weekend will count.

Shoot again to improve your score, try the other event or simply enjoy another round.

English Sporting 40

English Sporting will be run as a 40-target official round.

It provides the more approachable of the two main courses, with clear target presentations and enjoyable pairs suited to a broad range of experience levels.

It is ideal for developing shooters and club members wanting an enjoyable round, while still giving experienced competitors a genuine score to chase.

  • 40 targets

  • Entry: $29 per official round

  • Re-enter as often as you like

  • Your best 40-target round counts

Super Sporting 60

Super Sporting will be run as a 60-target official round.

The course offers greater target variety, more technical combinations and additional challenge for experienced shooters, while remaining accessible to developing Sporting competitors.

  • 60 targets

  • Entry: $43 per official round

  • Re-enter as often as you like

  • Your best 60-target round counts

English Sporting and Super Sporting will run side by side across the same sporting fields, using different shooting positions and presentations.

Choose your preferred level of challenge, or have a go at both.

New for 2026: Rally Clays

Rally Clays is the fast, head-to-head clay target format created in the UK by Simon Reinhold. Rally Clays NZ is being introduced through Simon’s New Zealand Agent, James Mackie, with Wairarapa Clay Target Club hosting the first four New Zealand competitions.

A dedicated field will operate in front of the clubhouse throughout the weekend. Two shooters challenge one another in a live match, with the first competitor to five points taking the win.

August leaderboard pools:

  • AA/A

  • B Grade

  • C/Novice

Shooters may challenge within their own grade or one grade either side. A competitor’s best two eligible winning results against two different opponents will count.

Rally Clays targets are 40 cents each, with the losing shooter paying for all targets thrown during the match.

Rally Clays is for shooters who are already safe, proficient and comfortable taking part in a live match.

New and casual shooters are genuinely welcome

You do not need years of experience, your own firearm or a firearms licence to take part under club supervision.

Guided introductions, club equipment and support are available for people wanting to try clay target shooting or build their confidence.

Guided introduction periods

Introductions will be available during:

  • Friday afternoon

  • Saturday from 9:00am

  • Saturday after 2:00pm

Saturday through the middle of the day becomes extremely busy, so guided introductions will not be available during that peak period.

No guided introductory sessions will be available on Sunday.

Friday and the quieter Saturday periods are particularly well suited to:

  • first-time shooters

  • families and younger participants

  • school shooters wanting broader experience

  • hunters looking for off-season practice

  • people returning to shooting

  • casual shooters wanting coaching or guidance

Please book an introduction through the registration form so we can arrange a suitable time and club coach.

Coaching during official rounds

Coaching and guidance will remain available throughout the weekend, including while shooters are completing scored rounds.

During busy periods, this must be limited to shooters who are already safe and comfortable taking part within a normal squad.

Anyone wanting detailed technical assistance or substantial coaching time should attend on Friday or during one of the quieter Saturday periods.

Sporting practice

Sporting practice will be available through the Promatic Claymate card system, subject to field availability.

Official competition shooting takes priority during busy periods.

Anyone wanting significant practice time is strongly encouraged to attend on Friday afternoon or during quieter Saturday periods.

Practice target rates

  • Wairarapa Clay Target Club Full and Junior Members: 50 cents per target

  • Visitors and Associate Members: 70 cents per target

More than $3,500 in prizes

Approximately $3,000 worth of Falcon ammunition will be awarded across the August weekend.

Falcon prizes will extend across:

  • English Sporting

  • Super Sporting

  • Rally Clays

  • grades and categories

  • top performances

  • developing and improving shooters

The intention is not simply to reward the highest overall scores. Falcon’s support allows prizes to reach shooters across different levels of participation and experience.

There will also be more than $500 worth of random-draw prizes, supported by:

  • Hunting & Fishing Masterton

  • King & Henry Masterton

  • STIHL SHOP Masterton

Eligible members who post at least one official English Sporting or Super Sporting score during the weekend will be included in the general random prize draws.

Rally Clays-only entrants remain eligible for Rally Clays prizes but are not included in those wider random draws.

Prize eligibility and membership

Everyone is welcome to attend and shoot.

To be eligible for Falcon ammunition, graded prizes, Rally Clays prizes or random draws, shooters must be paid-up Wairarapa Clay Target Club members for 2026.

Membership options (including mid-year discount now applied)

  • Full Membership: $50

  • Junior Membership: $10

  • Associate Membership: $20

Associate Membership is available to shooters who are already full members of another NZCTA-affiliated club and are registered through that club.

New members can select the appropriate membership option when completing the weekend registration form.

A valid firearms licence must be produced before any ammunition prize can be collected.

Shooters attending their first or second club shooting visit may participate without immediately becoming members, but will not be eligible for prizes unless membership has been completed.

Membership is required from a shooter’s third club visit onward.
