News | New Zealand's Third Rally Clays Competition
New Zealand’s third official Rally Clays competition returns to Wairarapa
Rally Clays NZ #3 runs at Wairarapa Clay Target Club this weekend, 16–18 October, alongside the third Falcon Sporting Clays Weekend.
Following the August launch and September competition, Rally Clays will again operate on the dedicated field directly in front of the clubhouse across all three days.
Created in the UK by Simon Reinhold, Rally Clays puts two shooters directly against one another in a fast head-to-head match, with every broken target handing the pressure straight back to the opponent.
Wairarapa is hosting the first four official New Zealand competitions during the 2026 Falcon Sporting Clays programme.

October competition
The October event will again use three leaderboard pools:
AA/A
B Grade
C/Novice
Shooters may challenge competitors in their own grade or one grade either side for a leaderboard-eligible match.
Each competitor’s best two winning Performance Scores against two different opponents will count toward their final pool standing.
Matches outside the eligible grade range can still be shot for fun.
Performance Score
The Rally Clays Performance Score rewards two things: the quality and length of the rallies, and how decisively the match is won.
For October, matches will be run first to five points.
A winner’s Performance Score is based on the average number of valid targets broken per point, then multiplied according to the final match result:
5–4 win: ×1.00
5–3 win: ×1.25
5–2 win: ×1.50
5–1 win: ×1.75
5–0 win: ×2.00
Only the match winner receives a Performance Score.
This means a quick 5–0 win over only a handful of targets will still produce a relatively low score, while a match requiring long sustained rallies will score much more strongly.
Winning by a clear margin matters, but the strongest Performance Scores will come from combining long rallies with a convincing match win.
Loser pays
There is no fixed Rally Clays match-entry fee.
The losing shooter pays for all targets thrown during the match at:
40 cents per target
The exact number is recorded through the club’s Promatic Claymate system.
Shoot as many matches as field availability and suitable opponents allow.
Falcon ammunition prizes
Thanks to Falcon Ammunition, prizes will again be awarded across all three Rally Clays pools.
Prize eligibility requires current 2026 Wairarapa Clay Target Club membership, and a current firearms licence must be produced before any ammunition prize can be released.
Have a go this weekend
Rally Clays is open to safe, proficient shooters who are comfortable handling and loading their firearm and taking part in a live head-to-head match.
If you’ve watched Rally Clays over the first two weekends but haven’t stepped onto the platform yet, October is another chance.
