Read more below on the specifics of Super Sporting...

EVENT DATES

  • Sunday August 25th - 100 targets - Match Two

  • Sunday September 22nd - 100 targets - Match Three

CHOOSE YOUR DIFFICULTY LEVEL
  • For the first time, we've organised the grounds to have an option between choosing CLUB level stands and COMP level stands. Think of forward and rear tees on a golf course.

  • On the entry form you'll decide between CLUB level stands (a bit closer and with less demanding target angles and presentations) or COMP level stands (further distance, trickier angles and more demanding presentations), and that will be the 100 targets you register for the day.

  • CLUB allows a great opportunity for new, casual, and club shooters to enjoy a great day out smashing clays and having a great time with friends, while still recording scores and comparing with like minded shooters on the CLUB stands. Event entry fees will be reduced, with event and series prize pools a bit smaller

  • COMP on the other hand, is for those shooters striving to shoot at a championship level, challenging their game and upping their skills with testing targets on the COMP stands. Event entry fees will be higher than club level, with bigger prize pools on the line.

PRIZE POOLS

  • Thanks to our sponsors, we have a huge prize pool of over $8,000 in Falcon ammunition to be shared between each of the three event days + the Series.

  • Plus we have Greytown Butcher meatpacks to be random draw prizes. 3x meatpacks on each event day randomly drawn on entry number to those who are in the Clubrooms for prize giving afterward (regardless of CLUB or COMP option).

  • On each event day, we will be dishing out over 13 slabs of the finest Falcon ammunition to winners and place-getters on both CLUB and COMP, with the majority on the COMP table.

  • The Series winners and place-getters in both CLUB and COMP will also take their share of another 10+ slabs of Falcon ammunition!

SERIES DETAILS

  • July through September will see 3 matches of 100 targets each. These matches, while being stand alone events, will also count towards a Series prize pool.

  • There will be both a CLUB and COMP Series' with their respective leader-boards. You can only be eligible in one Series. Whatever option you pick at least twice is the Series option you'll be in.

    • If you happen to shoot only two events being one CLUB and one COMP, you can nominate what Series you want your one score counted in.

  • Those who complete all 3 events in the respective CLUB or COMP will drop their worst score. Top 2 scores to count, from any of the 3 matches (no event is compulsory attendance)

  • Both CLUB and COMP series will be determined from a total of 200.00 possible points, allocated in the following way:

    • Leader-boards for both CLUB and COMP will be based on the event winner of each, having their score become 100.00 points, and everyone else's scores will be reflected as a percentage of the respective winning score.

We're proud to have the support of Falcon Ammunition NZ and Fagan Motors Masterton for our Super Sporting series of events.

Falcon Ammunition is a name synonymous with shotgun shooting in NZ, manufactured in Timaru under the Target Products umbrella. They are our only local manufacturer of shotshells, and pour an immense amount of support into clay target sports throughout New Zealand. Their ammunition is second to none in consistency and quality. Talk to the best shooters at any clay target event around the country and there's a high chance they are using Falcon ammunition.

Fagan Motors are long established Wairarapa dealers for Ford and Mazda vehicles, as well as Suzuki and Kawazaki bikes. Their reputation for quality service, selling and servicing their array of quality brands, is well renowned. We're proud to have such an established reputable brand join us in progressing the sport.

SUPER SPORTING RULES & SPECIFICS

SUPER SPORTING CLAYS

Super Sporting is a form of clay target shooting that allows for great variety and freedom in target setting. It is an evolution of English Sporting Clays, which was originally introduced to simulate various types of game shooting and is a vastly popular discipline in the USA and UK (the most popular discipline of clay shooting in England)

While the CLUB and COMP level stand options are a Wairarapa CTC initiative, there are common settings and rules for shooting Super Sporting that apply to all shooters, regardless of stand option.

Shooters will engage a variety of targets from a series of stands spread across our grounds. Targets at each stand can be anything that is safe, but you can expect our CLUB level stands to present simple-moderate targets, and COMP to present moderate to advanced level targets. A menu will describe the order of targets to be shot. 10 targets per stand for a 100 target day will be a common format at Wairarapa CTC.

Once entered for the day, you will be put into a squad group with around 5 other shooters, with whom you shall walk the course, taking turns to shoot each stand. If you are new or by yourself, it's not a problem at all, and we'd love to welcome you where you'll have someone experienced in the squad to look after you.

  • Our events are based off the NSCA rule book from the United States. (Super Sporting varies from the New Zealand Clay Target Association governed version of Sporting which is FITASC rules)

    • Super Sporting scores will not be entered into NZCTA handicap books as the FITASC and Super Sporting disciplines vary.

  • Key differences to be aware of:

    • The first shooter of each squad will be allowed to view the targets from within the shooting stand. Targets shall be shown as singles only. No doubles shall be shown. (Squad start order shall rotate stand to stand so its fair for everyone)

    • The shooter is free to start with a low gun or pre mounted gun when calling for the target.

    • Each station will have minimum 3 trap machines, with the menu calling for the singles to be shot first, followed by multiple pairs, in one visit to the stand.
