Falcon Sporting Clays #1 | August Results & Wrap-Up
The first weekend of the 2026 Falcon Sporting Clays programme is complete, with three days of English Sporting, Super Sporting and the New Zealand launch of Rally Clays at Wairarapa Clay Target Club.
Despite a fairly gloomy weather forecast in the lead-up, conditions were considerably kinder than expected for much of the weekend and we had another strong mix of experienced competitors, club shooters, developing shooters and newer participants through the grounds.
The flexible format again allowed people to come and go throughout the three days, shoot one round or several, re-enter to improve a score, mix competition with practice, and generally participate in whatever way suited them.
Alongside the two Sporting courses, Rally Clays made its New Zealand debut directly in front of the clubhouse and quickly became one of the talking points of the weekend.
The head-to-head format drew plenty of spectators, some serious rallies and a lot of friendly pressure between shooters. Full Rally Clays results and pool placings are available through the link below.

English Sporting
English Sporting was again run as a 40-target event, with shooters able to re-enter throughout the weekend and their best official round counting toward the August results.
The leading score was an excellent 39/40, reached by James Mabin, Geoff Wells and James Mackie.

Super Sporting
Super Sporting provided the more technical of the two Sporting courses, with 60 targets and a mixture of presentations and shooting positions across the grounds.
Again, shooters could re-enter throughout the weekend, with only their best official 60-target score counting.
At the top of the scoreboard, Geoff Wells and James Mackie both finished on 57/60, while James Mabin and Harry Denton were close behind on 54.

Falcon Ammunition Prizes
A major part of the Falcon Sporting Clays programme is making sure the prize pool reaches shooters throughout the grades rather than simply rewarding the highest overall score.
Thanks to the exceptional support of Falcon Ammunition, ammunition prizes have been allocated to the winner and runner-up in every English Sporting and Super Sporting grade, as well as the three Rally Clays competition pools.
For August:
Grade / Pool Winner – 7 packets of Falcon ammunition
Runner-Up – 4 packets of Falcon ammunition
Across the two Sporting events and three Rally Clays pools, 20 different shooters will receive Falcon ammunition prizes from the August weekend.
Ammunition prizes may only be collected on presentation of a current New Zealand firearms licence.

Random Prize Draws
Alongside the performance-based Falcon ammunition awards, four additional prizes are being drawn from eligible members who posted at least one official English Sporting or Super Sporting score during the August weekend.
These prizes are supported by Hunting & Fishing Masterton, King & Henry Masterton and STIHL SHOP Masterton, and together have a value of more than $500.

Prize Collection
All August prizes will be available for collection from the club office during the remaining 2026 Falcon Sporting Clays weekends.
Ammunition prizes require presentation of a current New Zealand firearms licence.
Any prizes remaining uncollected at the conclusion of the November Falcon weekend will be returned to the club prize pool.

The next Falcon Sporting Clays weekend will be:
18–20 September 2026
English Sporting and Super Sporting will return, together with the second New Zealand Rally Clays competition.
