Everything You Need to Know: Round 3 — 2025 Falcon Sporting Clay Series
The format is doing exactly what we hoped — flexible, friendly, and fun. Round 3 runs Friday–Sunday, 24–26 October, and it’s built for everyone: first-timers and families, casual hunters keen to sharpen up, and seasoned competitors chasing consistency.
1) The Weekend at a Glance
Dates: Fri–Sun, 24–26 October 2025
Open times: Friday from 1:00pm, Saturday & Sunday all day (last squads mid-afternoon)
Location: Wairarapa Clay Target Club, 170 Moroa Road, Tauwharenikau
Disciplines:
English Sporting (50 targets) — classic pairs: straightforward, repeatable, and great for building discipline.
Super Sporting (70 targets) — more stand variety and technical angles, a bit trickier, but still welcoming for all shooters.
Flexible format:
Shoot any time between Friday 1:00pm and Sunday (daily cut-offs apply).
Practice, reset, and go again as often as you like.
Re-enter as many times as you want — your best score of the weekend counts.
Mix disciplines across the weekend, or focus on your favourite.
Cut-off times for official rounds:
Last round starts: 4:30pm Friday & Saturday
Last round starts: 1:00pm Sunday
We set courses on Thursday/Friday to suit the forecast so conditions are fair and fun across the whole weekend.
2) Who It’s For
New shooters & families: Low-pressure, supportive vibe. Teens, parents, grandparents — shoot side-by-side. Learn the basics, try a round, or just have a go.
Game bird hunters: A perfect way to upskill on accessible, high-quality targets with plenty of variety.
Regulars & competitors: Build rhythm and focus on English Sporting pairs; test your reading and technique in Super Sporting.
On your own? No problem — we’ll squad you with friendly faces or an experienced club supervisor.
3) New Shooters & Coaching (Fri/Sat)
Guided Intro Sessions:
One-on-one or small-group with a club coach.
No licence required under supervision.
Gear available if needed (small charge for consumables).
Unlimited practice time before you try the event course.
Note: Sunday is less suitable for new shooter intro's. Ideally suited to practice and official rounds only (but reach out to James on 0272779221 to discuss your requirements if needed).

6) How Official Rounds Work
Pay your ground fee on arrival (or online).
Collect a Squad Scorecard (official round) or a Claymate Card (practice).
All shooting must have a Range Officer present (a squad member can be RO; approved Club ROs may practice solo).
Once you start an official round of a given discipline, complete it in one go (no interspersed practice).
Stands may be shot in any order, depending on availability.
You can’t mix disciplines within a round — finish one, hand in your card, then start the other.
Think you can better your previous score? See Christine or James at the office, grab a fresh scorecard, and have another crack. No limit on re-entries over the weekend.
7) Prizes & Recognition
We’re celebrating effort, improvement, and achievement at all levels — with a huge amount of Falcon Ammunition to award.
Awards include:
Top scores in English Sporting and Super Sporting
Categories: Juniors, Ladies, Veterans (55+), Super Veterans (65+)
New Shooter Awards — first-timers, most improved, best attitude
Fun spot prizes, flash targets & on-the-day challenges
Series Champions crowned over all four weekends
Grand Prize: An exclusive Driven Pheasant Shoot at Lagoon Hill Station, courtesy of Lagoon Hill & Louis Vavasour — drawn from anyone who posts an official score (in either discipline) across all four weekends.
8) Registration (Essential)
Everyone must register online for safety and planning. Walk-ups are welcome, but you’ll still need to complete the online form at the clubhouse — it’s much quicker to register ahead.
When you register, you’ll choose a preferred time window for your first round. It isn’t locked in; it just helps spread shooters through the weekend. You can check the live registration list to see busy slots and plan your visit.
