🎄 WAIRARAPA CHRISTMAS SHOOT — SUNDAY 14 DECEMBER 2025
A fresh new era for our Christmas Shoot — bigger, more flexible, and built for everyone
This year, the Wairarapa Clay Target Club is proud to unveil a completely redesigned Christmas Shoot format — the first major update in decades. The old 4×10 DTL routine and “bring a present for the table” tradition no longer matched the vibrant, diverse, and rapidly growing WCTC community, especially after the incredible success of the Falcon Sporting Clay Series.
The 2025 Christmas Shoot is built for all shooters — Sporting, Skeet, DTL, newcomers, casuals, and seasoned competitors alike. This is a day designed around fun, flexibility, great targets, and huge prizes, all wrapped in our famous Wairarapa club spirit.
We’re also proud to welcome two major local supporters to this event:
King & Henry Masterton — sponsors of DTL & Classic Sporting
Hunting & Fishing Masterton — sponsors of Skeet & Challenge Sporting
Their support helps drive our massive $5,000 prize pool, making this arguably the the biggest Christmas shoot prize table around.
⭐ THE NEW 4-DISCIPLINE FORMAT
Each discipline features a 20-target round, and you may re-enter as many times as you like to improve your score.
1. Classic Sporting — Sponsored by King & Henry Masterton
Friendly, flowing, confidence-building targets — great fun for everyone.
2. Challenge Sporting — Sponsored by Hunting & Fishing Masterton
More technical, exciting and demanding targets for those wanting a tougher run.
3. DTL — Sponsored by King & Henry Masterton
DTL Point Score, 4 targets per lane (3 points first barrel hit, 2 points second barrel hit, 0 points loss)
4. Skeet — Sponsored by Hunting & Fishing Masterton
Skeet modified to Stations 2–6 only, shooting High target (single shot), Low target (single shot) & Simo Pair at each station.
Shoot one discipline all day, or bounce between all four — up to you.
We’ll also be awarding an Overall High Gun for the day, using the total of your best round in each discipline. For High Gun scoring, DTL counts as targets broken out of 20, not points.
💰 PRICING STRUCTURE
🎄 One-off Christmas Shoot Buy-In: $30
Covers event entry, admin, eligibility for all prizes, and BBQ.
🎯 20 - Target Rounds: $15 per round
Re-enter unlimited times across any discipline.
Your best score in each discipline counts toward final placings.
🏆 PRIZES, SHOOT-OFFS & GRADES
Shoot-offs for all disciplines will take place at the end of the day.
We’re awarding 1st–5th place in the following grades:
A Grade
B Grade
C Grade
Unregistered
Across four events, that’s:
⭐ 80 prize placings + random draws
Supported by a $5,000 total prize pool, thanks to generous sponsorship from King & Henry Masterton and Hunting & Fishing Masterton.
🎁 20 Half Hams
One to every grade winner in each event
Plus 4 random-draw hams at the conclusion of shooting
To keep things fair, shooters may win a maximum of two half hams. If a shooter earns a third or fourth ham, it will be exchanged for a voucher instead. The end-of-day consolation hams can only be awarded to shooters who have not won any hams during the competition.
❌ No more table gifts
We’ve retired the old tradition — the club will be providing high-quality prizes down to 5th place in every grade.
📘 GRADING REQUIREMENTS — IMPORTANT
All NZCTA registered shooters must bring their handicap book.
Organisers reserve the right to place you in a more suitable grade if your known ability warrants it.
If you cannot provide your book, you may be defaulted to A Grade.
For Unregistered Shooters:
You will normally enter Unregistered Grade which is intended for newer and less experienced shooters.
However, organisers reserve the right to place you in a more suitable grade if your known ability warrants it
This ensures fairness across all divisions
🔄 HOW EACH FIELD WILL OPERATE
In-Line Format (Classic Sporting, Challenge Sporting, DTL)
Shooters queue behind Station 1
Move through Stations 1 to 5, shooting 4 targets per stand
After Station 5, your round is complete
Helping the flow
All shooters are expected to assist with:
scoring
button pushing
general station flow
If everyone contributes a few minutes during the day, the entire event runs smoothly.
🎯 SKEET FIELD OPERATION (Hunting & Fishing Sponsored)

High target (single shot), Low target (single shot) & Simo Pair at each station
Blank squad scorecards available on the field

🌟 WHY THIS NEW FORMAT?
The Wairarapa Clay Target Club has grown beyond recognition over the past few years. The Falcon Sporting Clay Series proved how wide and enthusiastic the WCTC community has become.
The old Christmas Shoot format didn’t align with that anymore.
This new version:
offers something for everyone
encourages shooters from all disciplines
enhances flexibility and fun
removes outdated traditions
delivers a huge prize pool: $5,000
strengthens our partnerships with major local supporters
celebrates who we are today: a thriving, modern, inclusive club
