Weekend Wrap-Up: Clays Crushed, Skills Sharpened, Champions Crowned

It was a fantastic weekend at Wairarapa Clay Target Club, with great weather, strong competition, and valuable coaching making for a relaxed yet rewarding Skeet and Sporting event.

Sporting Clays Coaching – A Real Hit

Sunday’s Sporting coaching sessions were a standout, thanks to Craig Matthews, who delivered practical, engaging instruction across all levels. From helping newcomers build confidence to assisting experienced shooters in refining their technique, Craig’s clear and approachable coaching style was widely appreciated. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and we’re grateful to have such expertise on hand.

Promatic Claymate – Smart Shooting, Made Easy

The weekend also saw the successful rollout of our new Promatic Claymate card system, supplied by Target Products NZ. It operated seamlessly throughout the event, allowing shooters to track their targets, manage their practice time, and shoot at their own pace. The system proved especially useful during Sunday’s coaching sessions, where individual card usage helped tailor each shooter's experience. This upgrade is a major step forward for our Sporting field and a great sign of things to come.

Skeet Shooting – Competition and Class

Saturday featured Skeet competition under clear skies, and we were pleased to welcome a number of dedicated shooters for a competitive and enjoyable day. A huge congratulations to our Skeet event champions:

• 🏅 Steven Cooper – High Overall in the District Skeet Match

A special mention goes to Peter Borrie for his continued dedication to the club and particularly to the Skeet discipline. His behind-the-scenes efforts are deeply appreciated and help keep our events running smoothly.
