Falcon Sporting Clays #2 | September Results
The second weekend of the 2026 Falcon Sporting Clays programme is complete, with another three days of English Sporting, Super Sporting and Rally Clays at Wairarapa.
Despite another fairly ordinary forecast in the lead-up, conditions were considerably better than expected for much of the weekend, particularly through Friday and Saturday. A total of 46 shooters came through the grounds across the three days, with many returning for multiple days and multiple rounds.
The flexible format again allowed people to come and go when it suited them, shoot one round or several, re-enter to improve a score, mix competition with practice, and generally make the weekend work around their own time and goals.
Just as encouraging was the continued mix of experienced competitors, developing club shooters and complete newcomers. We again welcomed new members into the club, while several people experienced clay target shooting for the first time and were able to spend one-on-one time with experienced club shooters learning safe gun handling, basic technique, target reading and the fundamentals needed to start well.
That opportunity to learn, ask questions, get some advice and then have another go is a big part of what these weekends are intended to provide. We’re continuing to see newer and developing shooters grow in confidence, become more comfortable joining normal club squads, and return month after month to keep improving.
There was plenty of strong shooting at the competitive end as well. John Hillier and Tim Crum both reached 37/40 in English Sporting, while James Mackie led the Super Sporting scoreboard with 57/60. Rally Clays also returned for the second official New Zealand competition, with the full results available through the link below.
A huge thanks again to Falcon Ammunition for continuing to back a programme built around participation, development and giving people more opportunities to shoot. Their support allows us to put meaningful prizes right through the grades while continuing to create an environment where newcomers, developing shooters and experienced competitors can all take part alongside one another.

Falcon Ammunition Prizes
A major part of the Falcon Sporting Clays programme is making sure the prize pool reaches shooters throughout the grades rather than simply rewarding the highest overall score.
Thanks to the exceptional support of Falcon Ammunition, ammunition prizes have been allocated to the winner and runner-up in every English Sporting and Super Sporting grade, as well as the three Rally Clays competition pools.
For September:
Grade / Pool Winner – 7 packets of Falcon ammunition
Runner-Up – 4 packets of Falcon ammunition
Ammunition prizes may only be collected on presentation of a current New Zealand firearms licence.
The club is extremely grateful to Falcon for providing the backing that makes this level of prize support possible.

Alongside the performance-based Falcon ammunition awards, four additional prizes are being drawn from eligible members who posted at least one official English Sporting or Super Sporting score during the September weekend.
These prizes are supported by Hunting & Fishing Masterton, King & Henry Masterton and STIHL SHOP Masterton, and together have a value of more than $500.
