Record Numbers in October – Falcon Sporting Clays Series Round 3

24–26 October, Wairarapa Clay Target Club

Round 3 of the Falcon Sporting Clays Series delivered our biggest weekend yet — 63 total entries across three days, building again on the momentum from August and September. The grounds were humming from Friday through Sunday as shooters mixed practice, tuition, and re-entries alongside official rounds in both English Sporting and Super Sporting.

We welcomed a fresh wave of new members and first-time shooters, many taking advantage of guided introductions and coaching sessions from our experienced club regulars. It was awesome to also see returning newcomers stepping back in to keep the learning curve going.

Competition was tight at the pointy end too, with top shots from Whanganui and Rangitīkei trading blows with locals from Wairarapa and travellers from Kāpiti and Wellington. Plenty of friendly rivalry and tight battles throughout the categories and open field.

On the Weather

Conditions were generally mild with workable breezes, punctuated by a few stronger spells that kept everyone honest on the trickier targets. All up, a very shootable weekend.

Club Spirit

  • Ian Buick — Quiet graft, big heart for juniors, and a driving force since day one. Ian’s the behind-the-scenes constant of the Wairarapa club — setting up, topping up, and saying yes when it counts. On Saturday he guided his group of secondary school shooters and their parents around the English Sporting course with calm, patient help. As a small thank-you, Ian deserves a slab of Falcon's best. Thanks Ian!
