April Sporting Weekend – ANZAC Weekend at Wairarapa CTC

ANZAC weekend carries a lot of extra weight.

Seeing kids, parents, grandparents, friends and visitors all out in the sun together, enjoying a safe outdoor shooting sport, was a pretty sobering reminder of the way of life we’re lucky to have in New Zealand.

We give our thanks and appreciation to all those past and present who have protected our country, our way of life, and the freedoms that allow us to enjoy weekends like this.

The weekend itself was another cracker.

We had a great range of people through the grounds, from women and kids trying clay shooting and breaking targets for the first time, through to experienced gamebird shooters, regular club shooters and national-level competitors.

As usual, it was really great to see how everyone mixed in. People introducing themselves, enjoying new company, meeting new friends, experienced shooters helping first-timers and sharing tips with others, along with gamebird shooters picking up things that will make a difference once the season opens soon.

So much encouragement, plenty of laughs, and a bloody good feeling around the club all weekend, which is what our flexible sporting weekends are all about.

Flexible entries. Practice if you want it. Official scores if you want them. A great variety of targets. Safe, modern systems. Public information available so people know what’s happening. And a club full of people willing to help anyone who wants to give the sport a go and have a good time doing it.

At a time when there’s a fair bit of doom and gloom around the country, what we’re seeing at Wairarapa Clay Target Club is super encouraging. It shows there is real growth potential in this sport when clubs, and those leading the sport, are prepared to look at things with fresh eyes and make it easier for people to get involved.

Families can do this together. Different generations can stand on the same range, learn together, laugh at the misses, celebrate the breaks, and go home wanting to come back.

All the information about our shoots is available through the club website and Facebook page, including event details, registrations, results, prize winners and wrap-ups.

If you’re interested in getting involved, bringing the family along, or introducing your kids to a sport that teaches focus, resilience, respect, safety and connection with others, reach out anytime through the contacts on our website.
